Misplaced priorities
Here is a story that has gone through all the major news networks, and not in an entertainment segment:
BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Cruise plays down 'placenta plan': "Hollywood actor Tom Cruise has played down reports that he plans to eat the placenta of his new baby.Who gives a damn!?! I mean it is sick if it is true, but who cares? When people are dying for the daily comforts in the West, the West chooses to focus on... Tom Cruise? Where is the world going?
The War of the Worlds star was quoted in GQ magazine saying he thought the placenta and umbilical cord would be 'very nutritious'.
But in a subsequent interview with Diane Sawyer on US television, he made light of the comments."

Has it really?
I've been highly critical of the western media's tendency toward "infotainment" (the fusion of information and entertainment). My most recent article on the topic was last Thursday (http://mofyc.blogspot.com/2006/04/big-story.html).
But I haven't heard anything about this Cruise non-story. Even the BBC article you linked to was in their entertainment section.

Yesterday (Tuesday), it was on CNN, MSNBC and FOX and it was one of the headlines. Of course, it was also in the Entertainment section...
